cantina

It's about time! Seriously, the new millennium was supposed to bring us all kinds of cool new products. In fact, I have a Sports Illustrated issue from the early 70's which promises that by the year 2000, we'd have 150 yard football fields, women quarterbacks, and that some of the positional players would be using jet packs. But none of that stuff came true (well, the women quarterbacks thing is kind of true)! We're not even riding around in hover crafts yet, something that I find immensely disappointing. So finally a product like this shows up. I feel like Han Solo and Chewy should be sitting over in the corner, having a conversation, while Ben cuts off somebody’s arm with a light saber at the bar. This thing is straight out of Star Wars.

Now, the key is going to be somebody actually learning to play this thing, rather than just playing with it. Can you imagine the first club that features a legitimate DJ playing this? Who cares about dancing! Suddenly we’re just all standing around the light table, watching the DJ and his magic cubes!

Dude,
that thing is sweet. I checked it out further on you tube. There are a few videos with people actually using it for a full production. Though there is no 'song' element yet. Like you said, people are simply playing around with it at this point. Bjork uses one in concert apparently. But it is out there and not used well.

It is interesting because when people are messing with it, it basically comes out as different frequencies of airplane noise.

I wonder if in 30 years I will annoyed at the 20-somethings bringing their airplane noise lights to play instead of our old faithful U2 -esque rock worship guitar songs into church. It'll be sort of like the future scene in Bill & Ted's excellent adventure, with the shiny suits and the new form of guitar music.

I kind of want one.

I also would like to get a pedal steel guitar. That would be glorious.

Still challenged by email and can't figure out how to use my cheap mp3 player-but it holds over 200 songs!!!! The more easily amused you are, the more awesome your life seems to be. Ashton got an ipod nano for her birthday, and i don't know what that means, but she is really excited about it.

If MTV still played 80s videos, i'd be watching like it was still new and impressive.

Best use so far--watch the video in your office with the volume turned up really loud! I totally stopped all productivity and no one even left their desks.

This is the most groundbreaking technology since TETRIS.
