important article

There's an extremely important article on Moby's blog today. I'll give you one quote, but beg you to check out the entire article.

"if a musician made a record wherein he talked about killing blacks and jews would he get covered in the press and played on radio and mtv? if the answer is 'no'(as it should be), then why is radio and mtv filled with music that has lyrics about killing and brutalizing women and gays? is it somehow less offensive when women and gays are brutalized and killed?"

I think people, in general, have become desensitized to brutality towards women and homosexuals. You hear about it all the time and begin to just tune it out after a awhile. Especially in a time when a lot of people think, "There's nothing I can do about it, so I'll just ignore it."

I have no insight on why it's worse to hurt/kill certain races than it is to hurt/kill women or homosexuals. Maybe it's another offense issue. People don't care about offending women or homosexuals, but it's different when it's a certain race. I don't know. It's just a thought.

I think its just a sign that our culture is in transition. We have realized the error of some of our ways, while still denying the existence of other sins.
For some reason our societies feel the need to pick on certain groups. If its not racism, sexism... it will be some other prejudice.
The pesimist in me doubts that there will ever be a time on this earth where there will not be at least one group being discriminated against. Which btw doesnt mean we stop trying to put an end to prejudice. But we do need to recognize that people are sinful, and we alone can't stop discrimination.
